The Edinburgh Wolves took a huge step towards the playoffs vin the BAFA National League, as they beat top place team the Clyde Valley Blackhawks with a dominant 38-19 victory.
The Wolves came into this game a 5 game win streak, while the Blackhawks were undefeated in 7 games.
Quarterback Jamie Morrison got the home team on the boards quick with a mazy run through the Blackhawk defence. However Clyde Valley’s Quarterback Nicky Farrel showed he too can play with his feet and ran in a score shortly after.
That seemed to galvanise the Wolves and rookie wide receiver Lloyd Dignan managed to pull in a couple of superb Morrison passed to give the Capital side a strong 21-6 half time advantage.
The Wolves defense, led by Richard Anderson and Ejike Wosu were superb all afternoon and twice made vital stops in their own end zone, stopping the Blackhawks offence in its tracks.
Dignan hauled in another Morrison pass for his hat-trick to make it 28- leaving the Blackhawk players looking shell shocked.
A Murray Rendall field goal to extend the lead but the Blackhawks struck back quickly as Farrel threw a perfect pass into the endzone for a quick score, before Gary Orr ran in another touchdown to bring the visitors to within 12 points.
The Wolves then took control of the game and solid blocking offensive line allowed Kieran Smith to run the ball into the end zone and complete the 38-19 rout.
The Wolves travel to Aberdeen on the 3rd August and a win would give them an 8-2 record which should be enough to secure a playoff spot.
