The Edinburgh Wolves travel to Gateshead on Sunday for the first game of the 2016 BAFANL season.
Gateshead Senators come into this fixture after losing 32-12 to the Yorkshire Rams and will be looking to get their season back on track. However with the team having recently merged with Tyndale Fury there is bound to be a period of adjustment. Gateshead looked strong in periods on Sunday and the ground attack is always a scoring threat.
Whilst the Wolves ran out winners in the last two meetings they will have to shake off the preseason rust if they are to beat this well drilled and established organisation.
The Wolves have recruited well this season now boasting the largest pool of players in the team’s history. However there have been some key losses with Wolves Hall of Famer Duncan Tanner retiring and defensive star Mitch Strachan returning to Goondiwindi. The Wolves rookies will have to step up and fill the two large voids created in their absence.
Star quarterback Jamie Morrison is focused going into the new season:
“We have had a lot of success the last couple of years but this is a new year and a new season in which none of that matters. We hope to come out strong in our first few games behind a strong pre-season with another good rookie class, tight battles for starting positions and a successful preseason game.”
The match will kick off at 2:30pm be sure to follow the Wolves Facebook and Twitter accounts to keep up to date with the scores.
