11 August 1996, The date the Pirates last saw defeat at the hands of a Scottish team. By who? Fife 49ers Who played in that team? HC Don Edmonston!! No automatic alt text available.

The start of game didn’t go to plan with just 3rd downs played a tipped screen pass land straight into the hands D-lineman Craig Sanders. A 30 yard trundle  for the endzone left the Wolves 6-0, it would stay this way as EKP failed on the PAT.

Wovles next drive was a quick 3 and punt from some resolute Pirates D, Then a 6-play drive ended in a 16-yard scoring pass from Neil Baptie to James Lightbody, this time the PAT is good, 13-0. The mountain grew on the next Offensive drive when the second interception of the day arrived, Ryan Miller at the 50 would take the ball all the way back to the house. Kane converted, 1st quarter ends 20-0

The second quarter saw the Wolves finally getting their act together and halfway through the quarter. Consecutive plays of 15, 12 and 17 yards took the “O” to a 1st-and-goal at the EK 7 yard line. Two plays later, RB, Davidson #21 powered over from a yard out to score. The Wolves would go for two and were handed a couple of bites at the cherry with the first attempt ruled as PI when  Fell #87 was cleaned out by two, over eager, Pirates. Morrison #5 would keep the ball on the next attempt and snake his way into the endzone, 20-8. After some impressive D on the Pirates next drive would see the Wolves get the ball back quickly, the following offensive drive would see some excellent running to get within 15 yards, unfortunately the Pirates D would stay strong in the RED Zone and block a resulting FG attempt on 4th. 20-8 at the break.

The 3rd quarter started like the first, with just three plays in and Scott Widdowson broke free to score on a 40-yard run, PAT is good 27-8. WE LOVE A CHALLENGE!!!

The O came onto the field with determination to overturn the lead. Solid, calm plays saw the Wolves make their way up the field, with Harrison #10 Dignan #20  and Fell #87 all making important catches before a 21-yard pass from Morrison to Fell, the receiver doing well to snag the pass under pressure, bring the Wolves back to life. Dignan added the PAT, 27-15. The D would share this determination to make light work of EK  next attempt to increase their lead with a quick 4 and out.

Feeling the momentum shifting another long  drive ensued and was again capped with a Morrison-Fell TD, this time from 8 yards. The PAT was blocked 27-21 WIN BY 1? GOOD IDEA!! OH MY HEART!

The 4th quarter, would have to be one for the history books. With one score and PAT to take the lead the team knew exactly what was needed. The D stood strong again, with some glimmers of the Pirates danger shining through when their RB broke some good yards before being tackled at the Wolves 40. They would go 4 and out again, but this time the Punt being one of quality leaving the Wolves on their own 10.  Undaunted, they set about the task ahead moving the ball upfield, they were helped by a Pirates penalty for a late hit out of bounds on Davidson #21 after a good run and a further unsportsmanlike conduct call from the sideline would see 30 yards tagged on . The O would start again to break EKP down and after some good catches from Fell #87 and Dignan #20. Morrison #5 would find himself, and his offence, 6 yards out. Finally, with a cleverly worked QB sneak, Morrison #5 would run in a the game tying TD, before Dignan stepped up to slot the go-ahead PAT. 27-28.

From here a back and forward exchange would leave the EK offence with one last chance deep inside their own territory but with less than 2 minutes remaining. What would follow would be a strong resilient performance again from the D and a bizarre spike on 4th down from EKP to hand the Wolves the win! HISTORY MADE!!!!!! GO WOLVES!!!!!
